Birdland Park & Gardens, Bourton-on-the-Water, Glos

www.birdland.co.uk
Birdland is set in seven acres of woodland, river, ponds and gardens and contains over 150 trees which create a high canopy for the River Windrush and enclosure.

This natural setting is inhabited by over five hundred birds - flamingos, pelicans, penguins, cranes, stocks and waterfowl can be seen on various aspects of the water habitat. There are over fifty aviaries of parrots, falcons, pheasants, hornbills, touracos and many more. A tropical house and temperate houses are home to the more delicate species.

Take time out to wander, relax and learn in this tranquil environment. There are large areas to picnic and watch the activities of the birds on and around the River Windrush as it meanders through the park on its journey to the Thames.

Many of the species are now part of the active breeding programmes controlled by studbooks in the cooperation with European and International organisations.

Birdland are members of the Federation of Zoos of the Great Britain & Ireland and European Association of Zoos and Aquaria.

Cogges Manor Farm Museum, Cogges

Come to Cogges to discover what life was really like for the Victorians of rural Oxfordshire.  This unique, working museum is set in a historic manor house and Cotswold stone farm buildings.

Visitors take a step back in time as they enter the beautiful farmstead with its original Cotswold buildings and traditional breeds of farm animals including cows, sheep, pigs and chickens.

Characters from Cogges' history describe life on a working farm in an audio tour of the farm buildings with displays of farm implements and machinery. Regular demonstrations of farm work such as hand-milking and butter-making add to the experience and help bring the museum to life.

In the Manor House you can meet the Victorian maids and watch as they go about their daily duties like baking, washing and cleaning to discover what life would have been like just over one-hundred years ago. Watch as they cook on the kitchen range and if you are lucky, you will be able to sample some of their fresh baking.

Upstairs you will be able to explore the history of the house, parts of which are more than seven-hundred years old. In the activities room, children can try on Victorian clothes and play with toys and games.
